Punta de Mita Foundation fifth fundraising Gala at the HAIXIA resort, Punta de Mita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

This past Saturday the 26th of November, the Punta de Mita Foundation held its fifth fundraising Gala at the HAIXIA development located in Litibu. Haixia was very generous in hosting and fully underwriting the event so that 100% of the proceeds would go directly to the Foundation.

The event was attended by many Punta Mita area Residents who were given a presentation of the Foundations work and achievements by founding Board Member and MC for the evening, Greg Stanton. Those present also enjoyed a play that was written and performed by area High School Students highlighting the impact that trash has on us and our environment.

During his presentation, Greg Stanton gave special thanks to all the committees that now work within the foundation including:

The Education committee: Headed by Beth Fuller, this project has done tremendous work with the local Kindergarden is committed to following the kids as they move up the ladder. Education in general is a key area for the foundation

Senior center committee: Renovation of this center was done in 2011 so that the community elders had a location where they could hold their weekly meeting in a clean and functional facility Trash committee: This project has been and continues to be funded by the Men’s Luncheon group headed by Punta Mita resident Charles Ewell.

This groups commitment has meant that the highway from La Cruz to Punta Mita has been kept clean for the past three years and is now moving in the direction of cleaning and educating the people not to throw trash on the roads. A special recognition was made for Charlie Ewell who could not be present.

The Angels Ladies group: This special group of ladies established funded a Nutrition and health program that was well received by the community and will continue to follow up on this program to insure that the good work started continues. Sandy Howe made a presentation of the Angels work and invited others to join in their endeavors.

Sports committee: This committee, headed up by Ranchos resident Peter Newton, just finished the construction stage of one of the most visual and important projects the foundation has done to date. The new Sports Center for the communities of Coral del Risco and Emiliano Zapata was formally inaugurated at an event on afternoon of the 26th.

The inauguration was attended by Board Members, Sports Committee members, Local and municipal officials and of course many of the local families who will enjoy this facility for years to come.

In closing, Greg Stanton thanked all who have participated in the foundations work citing his words at the first foundation event held four years ago when he stated “tonight is the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of those who live in our surrounding communities”.

“Thanks to those who have served on the board, its committees and most of all the donors, lives have been changed and the community has improved”. “With your continued support the Punta de Mita Foundation and its committees will continue to bring forward new projects that will continue to improve the quality of life for those that live in our surrounding communities”.
