The list of spa treatments at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills reads like a cabinet of wonders. Dreamy scrubs, facials, massages give a peek into the life of luxury even if it is only for a two-hour spa visit. Then, while visualizing the quiet rooms and Zen-like relaxation we spied among the pamperings on the spa menu, the Punta Mita.
Created in Mexico, this treatment combines tequila mixed with sage into the oils for the massage and salts for the scrub. The spa menu describes the detoxifying properties of tequila. A freshly squeezed white tequila margarita massage sounds like the definition of happiness.
The full treatment begins with the scrub using a blend of salt, essentials oils of lime, orange, apple, and tangerine, tequila, and sunflower oil to exfoliate the skin.
Using coarse salt similar to the crystals that cling to the edge of a margarita glass, dead cells are shaved to leave the skin soft and smooth. The after the skin is rinsed clean, the massage therapist launches into a one-hour massage using tequila and sage oil.
Both have antiseptic properties for cleansing and detoxifying. We were told that this treatment is specifically designed to improve circulation, aid digestion, and relieve fatigue and the a smile-inducing smell of tequila will make fun party anecdote.
To experience the Punta Mita, book a pampering day at The Four Season Los Angeles at Beverly Hills or buy plane tickets and head to the Four Seasons Punta Mita forty minute outside of Puerta Vallarta.
Four Seasons Spa Director Derek Hoffman offers this DIY home version:
One cup sea salt
Two ounces of olive oil
The juice of one lime
½ a shot (half ounce) of white tequila
Combine in a cup or bowl until blended.
* Slather this onto damp skin in gentle circular motions. Scrub is best performed in the tub or shower and ca be abrasive for a thorough exfoliation. Rinse and follow with moisturizer, ideally one with cucumber for its cooling, calming properties.
* For the massage the therapist applies tequila topically to the lower back and soles of the feet – to be removed by warm towels. A full body massage with tequila and sage oil follows. Use long, fluid strokes when massaging. This technique promotes deep relaxation, improves circulation, aiding in the body’s natural detoxification process.
Whether at the Four Seasons or at home, an invitation to the Punta Mita tequila massage party makes for an intoxicating good time. Salud!
